Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The centre of Kanina, which has been declared a protected cultural heritage area by a special decision of the Council of Ministers, will undergo a radical transformation thanks to the Urban Renaissance project. The reconstruction of the historic square, while preserving the tradition of the area, as well as the reconstruction of the Palace of Culture which is currently non-functional but is expected to turn into a modern cultural centre, will increase the number of visitors and tourists in this village that has cultural traditions and natural wonders. Prime Minister Edi Rama was today in Kanina, accompanied by MP Fate Velaj and Deputy Minister Artan Shkreli.

The first project is that of the village road, a government investment through the Albanian Development Fund, where interventions will be made for the reconstruction of the Culture Centre. Meanwhile a study is being carried out on the new Kanina water supply system.

“This place is a great attraction for the people. German tourists used to walk here from Vlora during the summer”, Deputy Minister Artan Shkreli said.

“The Palace of Culture is in miserable conditions. The idea is to have it restored, and little work has remained to be done”, MP Fate Velaj said.

“We need to make here the main square. We declared it a protected area of cultural heritage. We must start from here to bring the former Culture Centre back to life, have a conference hall for Vlora. Then do the rest little by little”, the prime minister said.

One of the government’s decisions, in addition to declaring the historic centre of Kanina a protected area, the Regulation of its Administration was approved, which will be followed by the Renaissance program for the whole village.
