On the second day of the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Prime Minister Edi Rama attended a working session of the heads of states and governments on the Support Mission in Afghanistan.
In his speech, Prime Minister Rama emphasized the continuing commitment of Albania to support the Alliance for the establishment of stability and security, and the sustainable development of institutions in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister said that Albania has engaged for years its troops along NATO in Afghanistan, and together we are investing that Afghanistan becomes a safe country for its citizens and not only. Prime Minister Rama noted that in order to fulfil its commitments in the framework of the NATO mission in Afghanistan, Albania has decided to double its presence.

The works of the second day of the NATO Summit focused on the development of the Alliance’s missions, and the stability planning in the southern and eastern side.
In the meeting of heads of states and governments, Prime Minister Edi Rama insisted on the need for greater attention of the Alliance to the Balkan region.
Prime Minister Rama reconfirmed the support of NATO’s open door policy and the expansion of the Alliance in the region. NATO and the European Union, the Prime Minister noted, are not yet fully extended in the Balkans. The total extent of the Alliance in the region is a strategic investment for common security. Kosovo still continues its efforts for NATO integration, the Prime Minister said, while underlining that the institutionalization of the Alliance’s relationship with Kosovo will serve as a catalyst for the entire Adriatic Europe.
The Prime Minister demanded the full recognition of Kosovo by NATO member countries, considering it a necessity that enhances stability and security in the region.
Albania has been recognized its contributions in the fight against violent extremism. As part of the global coalition against ISIS, Albania has planned deployment of military trainers in Iraq.
