Prime Minister Edi Rama toured the north-western district of Mirdita to inspect a series of recently completed and ongoing urban and rural rebirth and development projects with a positive impact on the everyday lives of local residents.
The sports hall “Arjan Arapi” in the town of Rreshen is undergoing a full reconstruction project through an investment worth 70 million lek. The project is designed to build an 800-seat modern indoor arena fully compliant with highest standards in sports infrastructure. Prime Minister Rama visited the new construction site set to complete in the next few months. Mayor Ndrec Dedaj said that the project has been long-awaited by the local residents in Rreshen, where volleyball is a traditional sports discipline. “Volleyball is a traditional sport in Rreshen and we have repeatedly called for this sports hall project. The local women’s volleyball team ranks first in the Women’s Category A of Volleyball Championship this year. I believe we will become the volleyball champion this year. We are also making efforts to start our own youth football and basketball teams,” Dedaj said.

A new agritourism business is getting started with the assistance from the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency in the village of Katund i Vjeter in the district of Mirdita. The entrepreneur has been inspired by similar enterprises that generate income and contribute to the wellbeing of many local households. The government fiscal incentives with a profit tax rate of 5 percent and reduced VAT rate to only 6 percent from a previous 20 percent rate are luring an ever growing number of immigrants to invest their savings in agritourism projects back home. The entrepreneur said that the idea for building a guesthouse came from the growing trend in demand for such agritourism facilities in the area which combine tradition and nature.

The new ring road project in Rreshen has finally addressed the congested traffic and acoustic pollution in the town’s centre that have been a cause for major concern for the local residents. With completion of the ring road project, the heavy truck trailers are no longer permitted to enter the city centre. “The newly-built 1.5-km long and 9-meter wide ring road has ultimately addressed a major problem for the town of, as the 60-ton heavy trucks carrying chrome ores from Bulqiza mine had become a serious problem in terms of traffic and acoustic pollution. The recent projects have had a significant positive impact on the citizens’ everyday lives,” Mayor Ndrec Dedaj said.

24-hour water supply to Rreshen citizens. A new project on construction of the water supply network, the first investment in the town’s water supply system over the past 50 years, is already underway. The new water supply system will significantly change the water availability and supply for around 12 000 residents in Rreshen, who face water shortages due to the lack of a water distribution network to meet their daily needs for drinking water. “The project will definitely address the situation and ensure 24-supply of water for local residents, “Deputy Infrastructure Minister Hantin Bonati said. “I am pleased that we are finally addressing a problem that has constantly concerned local residents. It is a very significant project to address a basic problem that no one had solved over the past 50 years,” PM Rama said.

Another important project is that on construction of a new kindergarten in Rreshen with a five-fold increased capacity compared to the previous kindergarten building and the new building will meet the highest modern standards, according to Dedaj.

The new Municipality building in Rreshen will provide a new model in public service delivery. The project is about to complete and it will soon open its doors to the citizens, who will benefit a range of public services without any delay.
