Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The central square in the town of Bajze, Municipality of Malësia e Madhe, Shkodra region, is being fundamentally transformed under a requalification project, a long-awaited investment for the local residents. Prime Minister Edi Rama visited Bajze today to inspect the ongoing works on site. With four legally permitted buildings as many as 200 other illegal constructions, destroyed roads and poor infrastructure, Bajze’s downtown had become a negative infrastructure example for the pedestrians and vehicles alike.

The mayor of Malësi e Madhe, Tonin Marinaj, said that the investment missing for years has changed the face of this town. “4 authorized constructions only, while all the rest are illegal buildings. About 200 illegal buildings. Cattle and stray animals on the streets. This part was blocked for at least 25 years. Residents are very satisfied with this investment. Meanwhile, work continues with the layout, greening. In addition, the public works include the construction of a nine-year school through a funding allocated by the Ministry of Finance, as well as the derelict road from the church in Peraj down to the highway, Bajze has transformed into a charming town,” he said.

Besides Bajze, the worksites of Urban Renaissance have all changed beyond recognition. “The requalification projects in Koplik and Tamara have already completed. The investment contract to revitalize Vermosh’s tourist center is also about to complete and finalize soon. The project is worth around 1.3 billion lek,” Marinaj said.

The center’s infrastructure preserves local tradition very much loved and cared for by the local residents. “Bajze will be totally transformed in few months, becoming one of Albania’s most beautiful towns,” a local resident said.
