Statement by Silva Bino, Public Health Institute:
As part of the daily briefing, we inform you about the coronavirus disease COVID-19 situation in the past 24 hours in Albania.
Tests were conducted on the samples of 269 suspected individuals, including 53 members of the healthcare personnel, out of which 24 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed, including six members of the healthcare personnel.
Twelve new coronavirus cases were detected in Shkodra, three in Tirana, three in Kukes, three in Fier, one case in Korça, one case was detected for first time in the municipality of Mallakastra.
So far, tests have been conducted on 4827 people and 518 of them have tested positive for the Covid-19.
A 64-year-old woman from Tirana passed away today morning after having been intubated for two weeks, bringing the Covid-19-related death toll in Albania to 26. The victim was hospitalized at Shefqet Ndroqi University Hospital and her health condition worsened and she had a cardio-respiratory arrest this morning. The 64-year-old patient succumbed to the disease despite efforts of the medical team at the intensive care unit. Patient had underlying health conditions.
Twenty-six more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have recovered after having contracted the novel coronavirus in Albania to 277.
Out of the total 34 patients currently being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, five are under intensive care.
At the COVID 2 Hospital, nine patients are hospitalized, five of whom are in intensive care, and three are intubated.
A total of 43 patients are currently being treated at both hospitals.
The map of Covid-19 infected people expanded to include Mallakastra and the number of infections further increased in Tirana, Kukes, Fier, Kavaja, Shkodra and Korça.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection once again urges citizens to respect the social distancing measures. High sense of responsibility is required on the part of citizens to respect the necessary distance between each other and maintain personal hygiene.
It is equally important that measures to curb the spread of the infection are fully respected within the family circle by avoiding visits to the relatives for whatever reason.
