Dajt is another reconstruction site, where new individual much stronger and safer homes are being rebuilt from scratch for the families that became homeless because of the Nov 26 tragedy. Behar’s family of four members is one them and they are currently provided shelter at his brother’s home that has sustained minor damages.
Prime Minister Edi Rama was in the village of Dajt to visit this new family home that will be ready to welcome its occupants soon. “We will build a home where kids will have their own room and their parents will have their own. We have already poured the grout of the roof and roof tiles are now being installed. Polystyrene will then be placed to provide insulation. I am confident that the family will be able to move into their new home in the next two weeks,” Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said.
To the family head it is almost incredible that the new house will complete so quickly. “We have been through many difficulties. We have never thought the house would be built so quickly. Thank you very much,” he said.
PM Rama said that the new dwelling will best meet contemporary construction and living standards. “it is great that you are solving housing problem once and for all. You will celebrate New Year’s eve in a brand new home. We have done our job and patience is all it takes.”
Commenting on the speculations made by certain individuals, Tirana Mayor said transparency is the best response to them. “There are a lot of speculators, who claim they haven’t received rebuilding grants, but we have kept all invoices, the damage assessment reports, on every damaged house and we can verify any claims in just few minutes’ time. But for every speculator there are 1000 other people who are grateful and respect the state, the law, deadlines, certificates and the property certificates. So, 99.99 % of the people, both the ones who benefit, or the ones who contribute and pay taxes, they are all correct and fair, while the cases of speculators are all clarified.”
Tirana Mayor Veliaj also explained that the families that previously used to share same house will now have their own homes. “Given that there are cases when two families lived in one common house, we will identify them and each will have their own home.”
Reconstruction of the individual dwellings in Tirana is progressing rapidly also in Baldushk, Kashar, Peze and Zall Herr. A total of 850 individual houses will be rebuilt from scratch in Tirana alone.
“A total of 359 construction sites have been already launched in Tirana and work is heading towards completion in many of them, while some are still at the state of the construction of the frame structure. The City Council will gather in a regular meeting on Monday to approve construction of 250 other houses, while another meeting will take place just to address the issue of the families that live in shared homes so that everything is done in accordance with the law and full transparency is provided. The procedures have completed for the construction of the apartment buildings and 8 construction companies have been qualified. We will now forward the financial offer. As far as the demolition process is concerned, we are preparing to start demolition of Qazim Turdiu, Lasgush Poradeci schools and the school building in the village of Peze Helmës,” Veliaj said, underlining that the companies that have been awarded the contracts have committed to carry out demolition and removal of the solid waste material too.
