The new residential neighbourhood in the village of Thumane is increasingly taking shape for the local residents, who will resume normal life following an immense ordeal they were through on November 26 last year. The devastating earthquake that left thousands of families homeless will be just a distant memory as construction of the new single-family homes is completing and the quake-affected residents will gradually move into these model residential neighbourhoods.

Construction of the infrastructure in Thumane, where the government is collaborating with the Firdeus Foundation, is nearing completion, while more than 3000 people will reside in New Thumane, a model neighbourhood not only for the area, but entire Albania.

“The two projects have progressed, including the infrastructure project with the asphalt paving already underway, whereas the Firdeus Foundation has commenced work to construct the single-family homes. This is a joint investment supported by the state budget, on one hand, and the Firdeus Foundation, on the other. Development of urban infrastructure has been entirely funded by the state budget and the site preparation for the construction of individual homes has completed,” the Minister for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj said as he accompanied Prime Minister Edi Rama during a site inspection, where work continues ceaselessly for several months now.

“This part of Thumane is entirely new and I can confidently state that the infrastructure meets the highest European standards,” the Minister of State for Reconstruction said.

Thumane is one of the worst-hit areas due to the devastating earthquake last year, but it will soon become one of the most beautiful areas, featuring more beautiful, stronger and safer homes than the ones destroyed by the earthquake, school, kindergarten, health care centre, public services office, as well as the new community centre, along with the sport grounds and parks.
