The ongoing reconstruction process is changing the lives of thousands of affected families for better following the devastating earthquake that hit the country on November 26 last year. The post-earthquake reconstruction program is advancing rapidly in every affected area.

Summary on reconstruction in Shijak and Kurbin:

Shijak

  • Construction of one school building has completed, two more education facilities set to complete within 2020;
  • Construction of three more schools and one kindergarten will kick off soon, one of them due to be built through state budget funds, and two through funds provided by international donors;
  • Construction of 400 single-family homes will complete within this year,  67 more to complete in January 2021;
  • Construction of the last batch of 200 houses in this municipality will commence soon;
  • Repair and renovation work on 24 residential buildings has completed, work underway to repair last three remaining apartment buildings;
  • 1844 families have received government compensation grants ranging from 100,000 lek to 500,000 lek to rebuild their own houses through a total state budget fund of 408,996,303 lek;
  • 897 families receive rental bonus since December 2019 until they move into their new houses.

Kurbin:

  • Eight Albanian companies, along with the Turkish company, continue work on the reconstruction site No.1 of the new residential complex of 524 apartments, 160 of which will complete by March 2021 and rest are set to complete in June 2021, plus 375 parking places, 1 shopping mall and 37 service units; 
  • The infrastructure and site preparation work is underway to build some 200 more apartments through the Albanian government funds in the reconstruction site No.2 of the new residential complex through a project that envisages rehabilitation of the stream running through the town, cause for regular floods over the decades;
  • Construction of 211 single-family houses to begin very soon;
  • Work begins to repair and reinforce 180 apartment buildings for 1500 families;
  • Construction of one school building to complete within 2020 through state budget money. Work is slated to commence soon to construct nine more educational facilities, two of which through state budget funds and seven through funds committed by international donors;
  • Work to begin soon to reconstruct the regional hospital and the municipal building;
  • 1820 families have received government compensation grants ranging from 100,000 lek to 500,000 lek through a total of fund of 500,900,000 lek;
  • 1615 families receive rental bonus since December 2019 until they move into their new houses.
