Another residential neighbourhood is being built in Vaqarr as part of the ongoing Reconstruction Programme for the families that lost their homes in the earthquake on November 26, 2019. Some 20 new dwellings are being built in cooperation with the Different Weekend” Foundation, giving shape to a new neighbourhood, featuring larger, stronger and more beautiful homes than the ones destroyed on the tragic night when the earthquake hit the country.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj, and the head of the Different Weekend Foundation, Arber Hajdari, today visited the construction site in the new residential neighbourhood that was launched 40 days ago.
“Work to construct the rest of the new neighbourhood will kick off soon,” Mayor Veliaj said, adding that new administrative unit building will also be constructed on this site.
A total of 55 people have been employed for construction of the 20 new single-family homes only, while the Reconstruction Programme has created more than 27.000 new jobs countrywide. “A Facebook follower wrote a comment, asking who is funding all these constructions at a time when there are no new jobs? Ndragheta does them – I told him. But 27,000 people have taken up jobs in the Albanian construction companies involved in the reconstruction projects,” the Premier noted.
Arbër Hajdari, the head of the Different Week Foundation, who is investing the donations provided by the citizens to support construction 20 new homes for the quake-affected families, said “this is a promise we have made since day one and I believe it is a promise kept.”
“Today companies face shortages in the capacity of workers and engineers, because practically everyone is involved in various projects. There are 175 companies, plus the projects being implemented by the Albanian Development Fund in collaboration with the Municipality of Tirana, almost 200 companies will be involved in the reconstruction process, design, infrastructure, construction of single-family homes, schools and residential buildings,” the Minister of State for Reconstruction Ahmetaj said.
