The investment project on the Internal Medicine Hospital in Tirana is nearing completion, the newest health facility designed to further upgrade quality and level of the public health system in the country. One of the most important and biggest health projects is set to open its doors and deliver care services according to highest European standards soon.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, inspected firsthand the ongoing works on construction of the hospital.

“Works on construction of the new Internal Medicine Ward are heading towards completion. This is an Albanian government investment and we expect the project to complete within this year. Finishing touches are being put at minus 1 floor, where installation of equipment is already underway,” Health Minister Manastirliu said. 

The new hospital will provide care to a larger number of patients, as well as will improve innovation in delivering care services. 

“Work has completed already here as all systems are now in place and are now fully operational. Installation is also underway. We expect to complete installation of all equipment by end of October. The new hospital is designed to be divided into four main areas in a bid to organize services in a new way and allow staff to have their auxiliary premises,” Health Minister said.

Prime Minister Rama underlined that the massive investment project will completely alter situation in the health care system. 

Doctors, who serve in this hospital for many years, said that the number of post-operative surgical site infections has dropped significantly.

The new 350-bed hospital, in addition to health care, houses also recreational spaces for doctors and patients, as well as lecture halls for the medicine hospitals. 

“Those who claim that the health system is in a scandalous situation, they provided only three care services at the Infectious Diseases Hospital that we are now fully rehabilitating and it will complete within this month. Rheumatology, dermatology and allergology that were all located inside the Infectious Diseases Hospital. Now, in addition to reorganizing them all, we have also given them the necessary spaces to develop all their services according to the standards,” Minister Manastirliu said.

Once work on construction of the Internal Medicine Hospital completes, the next major health investment project will be construction of the General Pediatrics.
