Another transforming investment being implemented in the coastal southern city of Vlora involves the rehabilitation of the facades of the buildings along Ismail Qemali Boulevard, construction of which kicked off few months ago and is expected to complete very soon.
Prime Minister Edi Rama today walked along the boulevard, where the incredible transformation is already obvious and tangible and where transformation will become more evident with the trees growing over the years to create a sort of a green “tunnel” for Vlora pedestrians and visitors along entire stretch of the thoroughfare.
Vlora Mayor Dritan Leli outlined the project, which combines other infrastructural interventionsl to gradually turn the city into one of the most popular and most preferred tourist destinations. “The project to rehabilitate the buildings’ facade has been developed in collaboration with the Albanian Development Fund. Work is also underway to rehabilitate the neighbourhood around Petro Marko theatre, which also includes the project we talked about during your last visit to Vlora, namely the Vlora University corpus in the area where the university dormitory compound was rehabilitated. We also plan to build a new access road from the boulevard to the university corpus, which we have redesigned along with the university buildings. We have worked on the urban decorative elements, similar to those included in the entire boulevard project. The rehabilitation project in the area around Petro Marko theatre building also includes the access road to the port of Vlora,” Leli said.
Welcoming the overall project concept, the Premier said that the space linking Ismail Qemali Boulevard with the Lungomare Waterfront Promenade will turn into a spectacular green oasis of trees and flowers, recreational and sports grounds for children, young people, adults and elderly people.
“At the end of the Boulevard, where the turn to the Lungomare begins, there lies that crypto-boulevard, so to say, that stretches all way to the port. All that space will become a park, a spectacular one. The corridor of the trees along the entire stretch of the Boulevard, on the one hand turn into the palm trees and on the other hand there will be built an urban park with many trees and there will also stand out the House of the Independence, which will be like oasis on its own,” the Prime Minister said, emphasizing that once the project completes everyone will be able to walk all way through from the Flag Square to the tunnel, without seeing or touching any car.
