Intercity roads, an important component of communication infrastructure, are central to urban transformation through new investments. One such project is the 60 km long Berat-Ballaban road, which connects the municipalities of Berat, Përmet, and Tepelenë. Its construction shortens travel time and distance while unlocking extraordinary economic and tourism-related potential for all these areas.
To inspect the progress of the work, Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site today, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, as well as the Mayor of Berat, Ervin Demo.
“We are currently at the first phase of the Berat-Ballaban road, a 60 km segment connecting the important municipalities of Berat, Përmet, and Tepelenë. The progress of the work is around 27%, but as I discussed earlier with the entire team, it’s possible we could finish it by the end of this year if everything goes as planned. To be honest, all the challenges we faced with land acquisitions and other issues, especially in areas involving local government, have been resolved quickly. This is something that should be praised by the Municipality of Berat. This is an F-category road. We started from the Tepelenë side, at the Ballaban Bridge. Over there, the progress is 67% as of today, while the second phase is around 30%. Here, we are at 27%. As discussed with the company today, we are highly likely to complete it by the end of the year. The other side connects to Vithkuq.” – detailed Deputy Prime Minister Balluku.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama praised the work done so far and emphasized that the projects would continue with the construction of new roads. “I see that everything is beautifully done. For agritourism, this is completely fantastic. This is where we want to continue; we will link it with Korça and then with Vithkuq, and it will all be new.” – said the Prime Minister.
