A series of new infrastructure projects are being developed in Berat, including those that build upon previous investments, such as the riverbank protection on either side of the Osum River. Along with other works in the heart of the city in the Gorricë neighborhood, such as the construction of a small ring road around the Castle, a pedestrian area, public parking, etc., these projects will give Gorricë a new energy, develop businesses, and increase its tourist value.
Prime Minister Edi Rama continued his visit to Berat today, closely inspecting these investments, accompanied by the Mayor of Berat, Ervin Demo.
“We are now, in the heart of the city, near the Gorricë Bridge. Here, two important investments are being built by the Albanian Development Fund on either side of the Osum River. We are currently working, in addition to the riverbank protection, which is a small part of the work being done, because this road will lead up to the Castle and create a ring road around Berat’s Castle. The riverbank protection here improves not only the safety of all the businesses but also creates something very positive on the other side, just as we did in the first segment when we finished investments in Gorricë. All work will be completed to the same standard, extending up to the Velabisht Bridge, meaning there will be a small pedestrian area, lighting, and all necessary conditions. From a visual perspective, that part of the city has improved significantly.” – explained Mayor Ervin Demo, who said that the riverbank protection extends to the other side of the Gorricë Bridge and is necessary because it strengthens the old wall built in the 1950s, which supports the main road.
“Now that the weather is warming up, Spanish tourists are starting to arrive, because Spanish tourists tend to be the youngest, at least in Berat and, I believe, throughout Albania.” – said Mayor Ervin Demo, speaking about the interest the area generates in terms of tourism.
