The process to radically transform regional directorates of Road Transport Services (RDTS) continues apace across the country. The dilapidated old Road Transport Service offices in the town of Laç will now be housed in a brand new building that is being constructed in line with the highest infrastructure standards specifically designed to ensure contemporary conditions and quality delivery of this kind of services. Prime Minister Edi Rama today visited the new offices of the Regional Directorate of Road Transport Services, where more than 110 000 services will be provided to around 54,209 local drivers each year.

“The situation we inherited was scandalous with offices and premises seriously damaged by flood water. The old building housing RDTS will undergo reconstruction and it will house two new stations for the vehicles’ technical and physical inspection,” the Head of the General Directorate of the Road Transport Services (GRDTS) Blendi Gonxhe said as he accompanied PM Rama during visit to the old RDTS offices in Laç.

As for the online services, Gonxhe noted that as many as 20,000 online applications were recorded last year. Meanwhile, as many as 4000 first time drivers received driving license in Laç in 2020.

The public vehicles inspection service resumed a day ago after putting an end to the controversial concessionary compulsory vehicle control concession contract that had tormented drivers over years.

“The Regional Directorate in Laç is second of its kind in the country’s north and sixth largest centre at a national level. We resumed the vehicles inspection service a day ago after the process was temporarily halted for two main reasons; first, a private concession contract has been nationalized and we have taken all measures, while infrastructure has been built and human resources have been employed to handle whole this influx. On the other hand, we suspended the vehicles inspection process for a three-month period amid the COVID-19 pandemic to allow for more time for the citizens,” the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Belinda Balluku said, adding that drivers will now be granted totally transformed and quality services thanks to meticulously arranged work process that combines online services and the vehicles’ physical inspection.

“GRDTS has proved to be one of the most avant-garde institutions in terms of the online services it delivers. The regional directorate in Laç is not the only one we are currently transforming as projects are underway to transform regional directorates in Shkoder, Berat, Sarande and elsewhere across the country, which will complete soon. Apart from the online services the GRDTS provides, apart from elimination of long queues, what we have done over the past few years is the significant work we have done to rehabilitate all buildings of this directorate all over Albania, in a bid not only to provide better service and working conditions for the citizens and employees. We have also acted to rescue the archives of this directorate,” Balluku said.
