The new campus of the Faculty of Professional Studies at “Aleksandër Moisiu” University in Durrës is a major government investment aimed at modernizing the infrastructure of higher education.
This project will serve 1,700 students and 80 academic staff, featuring 30 lecture halls, 15 scientific laboratories, conference halls, sports fields, recreational areas, a swimming pool, and a park. Additionally, a residential complex for students from other regions is planned as part of the campus development.
Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site today, joined by Minister of Education and Sports Ogerta Manastirliu, Durrës Mayor Emirjana Sako, and Rector of the university Shkëlqim Fortuzi.
During the visit, Minister Manastirliu emphasized that the investment would significantly enhance the quality of professional studies by providing 30 lecture halls, 15 technical science laboratories, covering areas like mechanics, navigation, and medical sciences.
“Additionally, there will be recreational spaces, sports fields, and a swimming pool, making this campus a world-class facility that meets the highest European standards. Green terraces and investment in sports facilities are also include; this building will house a library and laboratories as well, significantly expanding the capacity for professional studies,”explained Minister Manastirliu.
Rector Fortuzi noted that the university currently hosts around 3,000 students from distant areas like Peshkopia, Kukës, and Librazhdi, as well as international students. He mentioned that with the new investment, 15 additional laboratories will be built, helping the university further modernize and expand its academic offerings. Fortuzi also pointed out that the university currently offers joint study programs with European universities, which will be expanded in the future.
Prime Minister Rama also discussed the need for affordable student housing. He explained that the government and the municipality will collaborate to create a special program for student residences, offering lower rents than the market rate. Rama further mentioned that a master plan would be developed to ensure the campus’s future development is well-coordinated.
This investment is a significant step toward improving higher education in Durrës, providing students with better facilities and more opportunities for academic and personal growth.
