The area of Koder Vile in Durres, from a degraded area has turned into a tourist attraction. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Environment Minister Lefter Koka and Mayor of Durres Vangjush Dako, was today in the city to look closely at its transformation after the completion of the first phase of rehabilitation works funded by the Government.
Known by citizens of Durres as the Hill of Trickles, it has been a very problematic area. During rainfall it has turned in a risk area for citizens due to the landslides. Today, a promenade and the park on the hill are its new look.
For Mayor Vangjush Dako this investment has a double benefit: it relieves the city budget from the annual cost due to landslides, and gives back to citizens their urban space with standards. “This hill has been returned to citizens of Durres as a place of recreation and strolling. We will continue cooperating with the Ministry of Environment to extend this project to Koder Vile, so that citizens of Durres can enjoy it even as a jogging lane”.
The Minister of Environment considered it a model for other similar areas of economic and tourist importance. “This area had lost hope and people had lost confidence that it could be transformed into a park, while today I would call it perfect natural scenery. We will continue in other important economic and tourist areas in Albania”.
Prime Minister Rama said that the degradation of the area was a severe hit to the tourism potential of Durres and this investFontMENT TURNS IT INTO A MAJOR ATTRACTION FOR THE CITY.
“For the citizens of Durres, it was known as the hill of landslides at ongoing risks, while for countless visitors from Tirana and beyond it was a punch in the eye that prevented them from enjoying this area with a very important tourist potential. Thanks to the intervention of the Albanian government, a radical transformation has occurred. Fifty thousand trees have been planted and within 2-3 years we will have a transformed view of a green hill and a variety of vegetation that would be really an important attraction for all those who will use the walk lane in the fresh air. Our aim is to extend this strolling lane up to Koder Vile and provide citizens of Durres with an additional promenade kilometer”.
The Prime Minister noted that the government remains committed to repair errors of the past in the attitude towards the environment and forests. “I am very pleased to say that only in the first year of government, i.e. in the first year of planting we reached the quota of 2.5 million seedlings, and now we are recovering a terrible wound opened for 20 consecutive years due to the destruction of forests and massive damage to the flora of our country. For us Durres has been and remains a strategic priority in the framework of this approach, and this investment is a very strong sign of the rebirth that want for Durres and for the entire Albania”.
The promenade lane, the jogging lane and the cycling lane along with the modern lighting are elements of this project.
