Investments in new roads, featuring modern and contemporary infrastructure spread across all cities of the country, continue with projects at various stages of implementation.

Work is currently underway on the new Elbasan–Librazhd road, one of the most important construction sites of Corridor VIII. This project involves the construction of two tunnels, each 1.1 km in length, which will connect Elbasan with Librazhd. The road will become a major artery for traffic, unlocking the economic and tourist potential of these areas.

The investment, now in its fifth phase, is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The project also includes the construction of two bridges directly connected to the tunnels.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site today to inspect the progress of the work, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku.

Deputy Prime Minister Balluku explained that the project is currently in Phase 5 of Corridor VIII, where two 1.1 km tunnels are being built to connect Elbasan with Librazhd. Initially, the project planned for a 300-meter tunnel, but it was expanded to two tunnels to avoid impacting the city of Librazhd. She compared this work to the Llogara Tunnel and highlighted the geological challenges, such as the presence of water, which requires the installation of pumping systems.

Regarding the progress of the works, she stated that by September, it will be possible to emerge from the other side of the tunnel. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of next year. She also emphasized the significant progress in the construction of the two bridges and the advancement of the other phases, with the third and fourth phases making notable progress.

For his part, Prime Minister Rama praised the completion of the work, recalling the challenging work done to open the Murriz tunnel, one of the most difficult due to the area’s geology. On this occasion, the Prime Minister encouraged the continuation of other major works eagerly awaited by the citizens, such as the Librazhd-Dibër road. Deputy Prime Minister Balluku informed that the final details are being completed, and the road will be ready by early April.
