Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is in Vlora accompanied by Mayor of Vlora, Dritan Leli and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri during the first contact of the government cabinet with the community, were hosted by the family of Viron Mici in Kanina. In the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Mici family, the Prime Minister communicated the decision approved by the government the day before to declare Kanina a protected area.

In addition to the traditions of this area, there are also the olive groves, which are a characteristic of the entire south of Albania. Viron Mici told the Prime Minister that the problem of this area is not the lack of olive oil, but rather the lack of the market because most of the production remains unsold.

Rural development is the focus of this second governing mandate, and what the Prime Minister suggests to trade olive oil in this area is the establishment of a genuine collection and trading system supported by the government. “Let’s do a model, like the one they’re trying to do everywhere, in cooperation in the municipality. We receive financial support by the National Guarantee Fund for Agriculture and give you the opportunity to build the company and be shareholders together with the municipality. If it is about the investment, we support you with the Guarantee Fund. You should agree and have a great volume, so that it will be easier for you to negotiate. Otherwise, you cannot guarantee the market”, the Prime Minister said.

In addition to building a common market for this area, another aspect in which progress has been made is electricity which, according to Mr Vironi, is a promise held for the area of Kanina which is now supplied with energy 24 hours a day all year round.

Prime Minister Rama reiterated the importance of this mandate in fulfilling the many tasks that need to be done in co-governance with the people, by stressing that the government will be in touch with citizens in a different region of the country every month. “We have a lot to do, so the government will go to a district to have meetings every month. The ministers also will go to a district on a special mission to meet people every month. As we are talking, ministers are in the villages of Vlora having meetings and conversations for it is the only way we have not to part with the people”, the Prime Minister said.

“Now that energy is a problem solved for this tourist area, future priorities are the by-passes of Vlora and Fier, which are expected to minimise traffic congestion in these two cities, especially during the peak of the tourist season summer”, the Prime Minister noted.
