The city of Fier is preparing to unveil a newly transformed entrance, thanks to a highly anticipated project that will significantly improve the area’s infrastructure. The project involves reconstructing the 1.2-kilometer “Çeligrad” road, located in the “Mbrostar Ferko” neighborhood, stretching from the end of “Kastriot Muço” street to the Bypass.
Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site today, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, as well as Mayor Armando Subashi, to oversee the progress.
Currently, the team is focused on installing public lighting poles, completing landscaping, and finishing the construction of sidewalks.
“This is another project funded by the Albanian Development Fund, which will be completed next week. This is the entrance, locally known as Çeligrad. The urban development here has been extensive—not just the road and its widening, but also the addition of sidewalks, lighting, urban planning, and tree planting,” explained Deputy Prime Minister Balluku.
Mayor Armando Subashi highlighted the road’s dual importance as both the entry and exit point for the city.
“Çeligrad is the gateway to Fier from the highway bypass, and the city center is just 2 kilometers away. The road width is around 10 meters. For the remaining sections, we’ve planned and implemented a comprehensive project. Years ago, a drainage canal ran through here. Instead of removing it, we enclosed it with a turbino system and control wells. This will ensure successful drainage for agricultural land through the collector at the end. We expect the project to be completed in just a few days. What was once a rural area is now undergoing significant development,” Subashi explained.
In addition, work is underway on the Darzeza road, which will connect Fier to the coastal areas. Improvements have also been made to Apollonia Park, linking it to the bypass, parking areas, and the park entrance.
Elsewhere in the region, roadworks are advancing with new asphalt layers on roads like Cakran and Ballsh. The goal is to enhance connectivity and foster growth not only within the city but also in the surrounding rural and agricultural areas.
