The “Blue 1” Photovoltaic Park in Fier, with a capacity of 50 MW, has been fully operational for solar energy production since May of last year, in line with the government’s efforts to diversify renewable energy sources.
This region enjoys high levels of solar radiation, making it an ideal location for solar energy generation.
“Blue 1” is the largest private photovoltaic plant in the region, spanning 78 hectares. It utilizes advanced solar technology, including Bifacial dual-glass monocrystalline (665W) panels and one-axis “Trackers” that allow the panels to follow the sun as it moves from east to west.
Since it began operations in May 2024, the plant has successfully injected 77,000 MWh into the grid. The produced energy is sold on the free market by the producer.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is in Fier, visited the park to review the progress of the plant, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku.
“We are here at the ‘Blue 1’ park, a project funded by a private investor with a capacity of 50 MW, covering an area of 78 hectares and fully operational since May 2024. Since then, it has produced 77,000 MWh of energy. This is one of the largest projects in the region in terms of self-financed solar energy production, and, to be honest, it has become a benchmark project for the entire Albanian energy sector. Following this project, we have received numerous applications, some of which have been approved, and many are already under construction.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister, there is something very important that we would like to remind everyone: the ongoing efforts to increase renewable energy capacity in the Republic of Albania, with a focus on energy efficiency. We would like to remind all citizens that we have launched the second phase for solar panel applications. We have 2,000 units available, and just like the success we had in the first call, we are hopeful that these 2,000 units will be used up quickly and put to good use by citizens for water heating, thereby reducing their bills by 20-30%,” explained Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku.
“Blue 1” has established key partnerships and signed agreements with major players in both the regional and international energy markets, thereby expanding market access.
