Local residents in Kelcyre, although an area rich in natural and water resources, used to receive water supply only for six hours per day just few months ago, while the households in rural areas received water only for a few hours every day. However, the situation has completely changed now. An important investment worth 2,2 million euros to construct the water supply system in Kelcyre provides 24-hour potable water to residents in this small town.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the new water supply system in Kelcyre, which high quality water supply to the households in the southern town. “The water supply facility has been reconstructed and new pumps have been installed. It is an investment worth 2,2 million euros to ensure two-phased water supply. The electricity consumption of the pumps was extremely high previously, but they haven’t been switched on for six months now and electricity consumption is almost zero. The pumps are now being switched on since December, because Kelcyra residents are now being supplied via three external lines, namely the one we are now, the pumping station and two external free flowing water systems, the water source in Fratar and the Stone spring. Residents are being supplied 24 hours a day. They face no water shortages since November 2019. Kelcyra is extremely rich in water resources, but local residents have faced extreme water supply shortages over the past 30 years. Residents used to receive water supply for six hours per day only,” Kelcyer Mayor Klement Ndoni said.

The government head noted that with new investment projects across the country, ensuring 24-hour supply is now a reality, underlining that 24-hour supply will become a reality in all urban areas throughout the country within 2022. “This is another concrete opportunity for all of those who speak up unaware of what they are talking about start realize that ensuring 24-hour water supply is now a reality in many areas and we will deliver on our ambition to ensure 24-hour supply to residents in all urban areas within 2022, including the areas with dense population and not only the territories of the former municipalities.”
