Albanian Government Council of Ministers

For the first time, the Municipality of Gramsh has received financial support from the Government for urban and social revitalization of the city. With an overall fund of 40 million leke, intensive works have started simultaneously on several fronts.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Energy Damian Gjiknuri were today in Gramsh to inspect progress of these projects. Accompanied by the Mayor Dritan Bici and many citizens, they checked also accomplished and ongoing works.

Urban re-conceptualization of the city of Gramsh has started with the construction of a new square near the city market, as well as with the rehabilitation of the two public gardens.

Another important project is the urban requalification of one of the main neighborhoods of the city, where no intervention for its arrangement has been made up to date. Interventions are being made in the whole underground infrastructure, internal roads and sidewalks are being asphalted, signs and lighting are being fixed and green and recreational spaces are being added to the city.

Mayor Dritan Bici said that these are the first funds to be allocated to the Municipality of Gramsh. “This is a large amount for this city, and it is good that we started with arrangement and greenery. We will have more green areas for citizens. The government has allocated us 40 million leke in a year, while in 3 years as mayor I’ve seen zero money from the government.”

Prime Minister Rama noted that the municipality will receive ongoing support to ensure that the project for the urban rehabilitation will be extended with the construction of the promenade area, the renovation of facades and construction of access roads to the city in both directions, from Elbasan to Korça.

“Works on the new road will start soon. It is a really scenic route which connects Gramsh down to Elbasan; later we will connect it to Korca. So, there will be an entry and an exit, but there will also be entry and exit from both sides. Meanwhile, we discussed about proceeding right away with the project of the center. Now that interventions are being made in this area, which was a nightmare and will now become a small city center, let’s make here another addition, with a small project to rehabilitate the old buildings, so that it will have an exemplary looks. It will be a center that radiates hope and trust in others. Then, we’ll start simultaneously with the centre of Gramsh. Now it is up to you find a place for Antonio Gramshi, but do not make one of those monuments of the democratic realism, because we don’t like them. Let’s make also a promenade area”- the Prime Minister said.

Gramsh, which lies in the valley of Devoll and Tomorrica is thought to be a district with potentials in many fields. For this reason, the Prime Minister noted that, along with the new administrative division of territory, this is just the beginning that will turn Gramsh into a country with many attractions.

“Let’s give a clear message to all those who are citizens of the new Municipality of Gramsh, since it is not anymore a closed municipality around a small loop, but it is a municipality with many potentials; with many potentials also for the agricultural development, for the touristic development, for an improved environment, so that the city can really become a place with many attractions. This is totally possible. This is only the beginning” – the Prime Minister said.

The importance of the access road to the city was noted also by the Mayor, who said that it would serve the entire district of Gramsh. “The new road for citizens of Gramsh is a big work. With the project of the last government, from Gramsh you had to go in the mountains in order to reach Elbasan. Now, a very scenic road has been designed. The citizens of Gramsh and I would like to thank the government for these works and investments to the city and the entire district of Gramsh”- Bici said.
