The government is determined in its initiative to open the files of the former State Security under the communist regime. After reviewing the practices carried out in former communist countries that have taken this step, the process will be based on the success of the German model for dealing with STAS’s files.
As a part of this project, the meeting “Opening the files of the former State Security – German experience in handling STAT’S files” was held today in Tirana. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth, and was attended by the Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Minister of SWY Erion Veliaj, head of the Institute for the Integration of Politically Persecuted People, Bilal Kola, MPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana etc. President of the Board of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and former Commissioner of the Federal Commission for the STASI Archives of the State of Thuringia in Germany, Hildigund Neubert was the special guest at this meeting.
The representative of the “Konrad Adenauer” Foundation, Ms. Neuber, in addition to making a detailed presentation of the German experience in the field of opening the files of the former secret service German “STASI”, said that this process should serve to clarify history and to teach young people how dictatorships function, but also to honor those who in difficult periods decided to fight them.
