Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the ongoing work on construction of Kukes Airport during his visit to the north-eastern town of Kukes. In his remarks, the Premier focused on the potential of Kukes Airport, due to complete soon, its benefits to local economy and tourism.

“I am convinced that tourism is the future of Kukes region. With the airport that will open its doors soon – actually we have set a date to land the first airplane in Kukes with its first passengers aboard being the ones who have insulted and ridiculed me most from London – we will create a brand new economic platform.

Many venture to say what we need the airports and ports for, since we need the daily bread first, but, first and foremost, no Albanian has died of hunger since the Skanderbeg era. No Albanian has died of hunger since the Skanderbeg era for thousands of reasons we don’t need to elaborate on. But if we are to refer to bread as a metaphor, which symbolizes welfare, economy, the prospect of every household, the airports are somehow bread factories in the sense that they attract countless consumers and provide the conditions for bids and offers of all kinds.

It is a known fact that the return on investment in an airport, or the medium-term profit earned on an investment is estimated 23 euros for the cost of one euro.

Airports bring about investments, as the opportunity to directly fly to Kukes provides the conditions for everyone to explore Kukes’ stunning beauties, involve in skiing in Shishtavec and elsewhere, enjoy the incredible climate during the hot summer seasons, and in the meantime, it also spurs investment, services, economy and employment.

This is the most indisputable thing, the simplest thing for everyone to realize. Those who don’t want to understand, they will never do so. The Albanian people have a wise saying: “there’s none so blind as those who will not see.” We see a great potential in Kukes. “We have started to gradually free this potential, but what remains to be untapped is far greater than what we have liberated so far.
