Rebuilding houses and the livelihoods affected by the 2019 earthquake is in full swing to increasingly remove the post-seismic effects and devastation triggered by the powerful tremor on the night of November 26. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahemtaj visited the municipality of Kamez, where more quake-affected families are moving into their newly-built homes.

A total of 130 single-family homes are being rebuilt in Kamze municipality, while the families benefiting under the post-earthquake Reconstruction Programme express gratitude for the work done so far. “Engineers and construction workers have done quality and hard work,” a local resident said.

Some 35 new houses are being reconstructed in Bathore neighbourhood, whereas a total of 750 single-family homes will be build under the reconstruction programme in whole territory of Kamze municipality.

“We are doing our utmost but the projects take their time. What matters most is that investments that haven’t been made in past ten years combined are actually being made now. A total of 20 schools, kindergartens are being built in Kamze alone, as well as urban infrastructure and a new residential neighbourhood. The newly-built homes are gradually being handed over to the affected families and no traces of the earthquake will be found here by next spring. Thanks to this hard work and a series of projects, Kamze is becoming a qualitatively liveable place primarily for children, because until yesterday they had no playgrounds because of all occupied spaces because of buildings, roads without sidewalks, without kindergartens, without kindergartens, with old schools working in two shifts,” Prime Minister Rama said, emphasizing that now a new page has been opened for children.
