Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Durrës, Ring Road project is a highly anticipated infrastructure initiative for the city, designed not only to ease traffic congestion but also to stimulate further development in the areas it passes through.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, along with Durrës Mayor Emiriana Sako and the Director of the Albanian Development Fund, Dritan Agolli, recently visited the construction site to review progress and discuss the challenges encountered during the project’s development.

“This is the most important project we’ve undertaken, as the ring road will resolve the increasing traffic issues in Durrës. These issues have worsened in recent years due to the city’s growing population and booming tourism industry. Although we faced some significant geological challenges, we have successfully overcome them,” remarked Mayor Sako.

The new road will feature four lanes, with two lanes in each direction. “This was a missing access point, and from an engineering perspective, it presented real challenges, which is why it took so long to get started,” Agolli explained.

Prime Minister Rama added, “I remember when we first tried to stabilize the embankments; it was a tough task. But nothing is impossible, and we are confident that this project will be completed successfully.”

The Durrës Ring Road will span the entire Kallmi area, extending all the way to Spitallë. This region has recently seen a rise in agrotourism activities, which are expected to grow further as a result of improved infrastructure.
