Albanian Government Council of Ministers

“Kengo Art Park” is a unique project taking shape in the midst of the nature of Petrelë, on an area of 32,000 square meters, transforming into a space dedicated to artists, art lovers, children, and a new destination for tourists. The project bears the signature of the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, one of the most prominent names in contemporary world architecture.

This art park comes as part of the government’s investments to transform depreciated public assets, turning them into centers of art, culture, exhibition, innovation, and socialization spaces for young people, while at the same time preserving historical memory and the architectural values of the existing buildings.

At the construction site of “Kengo Art Park” today was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who closely followed the progress of the works and was briefed in detail on the project.

The Director of the Albanian Development Fund, Dritan Agolli, explained that the project extends over two main zones and that all reinforcement works of the existing structures have been completed. These structures were degraded and have been rebuilt from scratch, in compliance with the specific architectural requirements of the project.

“We are at the construction site of Kengo Art Park, the Kengo art park, which takes its name from the famous architect Kengo Kuma, who designed this project. The project extends over two zones, the first zone is this one here, with areas on both sides. The reinforcement phase has been completed, which was carried out entirely from scratch. These were ruined buildings and the internal finishing works and internal plastering have begun, which will be done with acoustic and anti-humidity plaster, specifically designed for this type of function. This project is part of the series of projects undertaken by the Albanian government to transform public assets that have deteriorated, turning them into development centers, both from an architectural and urban perspective, as well as from a functional one,” Agolli explained.

The park will include permanent and temporary exhibition pavilions, spaces for workshops and art studios, residences for artists, administrative spaces, as well as service areas such as a bar-restaurant and reception and information areas.

A distinctive element of the project is the creation of squares and open spaces, including a structure that functions as a natural amphitheater, suitable for various cultural and artistic events, turning the park into a dynamic socialization space for young people and families.

The Director of the Albanian Development Fund, Dritan Agolli, stated that according to the implementation plan, “Kengo Art Park” is expected to be completed in September of next year.

With a construction area of approximately 7,400 square meters, this project will be one of the largest spaces for art, culture, and exhibition in Tirana, adding another reference point to the country’s cultural and tourist map.
