As you may have noticed, the number of the new Covid-19 infections is increasing and the hospitalization numbers are on the rise. The upward trend in the fresh infections is particularly even more worrisome and if this trend continues it may inflict not only severe consequences on the people’s lives and everybody’s health, but, God forbid it, it may also force us to move backward to the only safe remedy and medicine until a vaccine is developed, the quarantine.
What are going to do? Shall we act like civilized people and respect some simple though bothersome and frustrating rules, or shall we, as the saying has it, act like the cow that kick the bucket and spills the milk after having filled it full?
I don’t want to become annoying and reiterate what I have constantly repeated to everyone, but I am really very worried and I want to let everyone know I am not going to stand idly by and watch how many have already forgotten that the invisible enemy is not gone.
The coronavirus hospitalization numbers over the past three days are higher than the number of patients treated at hospital at the peak of the aggression, when people were locked up in their homes. I don’t want the right thing be done badly in this situation. I don’t want see the penalizing offensive against the businesses that fail to respect the safety guidelines relax. I know very well the suffering they have been through and how many wounds they have to heal, but I haven’t changed my mind.
After all, the economy may fall, but it can recover again. The dead cannot be resurrected. I don’t want the penalties be the only way for the citizens who so negligently demonstrate forgetfulness and indifference to the real the real danger of falling prey to the invisible enemy, precisely right now that the country has reopened. I know very well how much they have endured; how much they have contributed to this war when we were all forced to defend ourselves behind the walls of our houses and when unparalleled solidarity helped us to successfully cope with the situation. I don’t even want to think, let alone utter the word quarantine again, let alone ordering the lockdown measures be restored if we are going to continue this way and if we don’t alter our behaviour urgently, starting today, and if the coronavirus hospitalizations keep growing and the number of the patients who would need assisted breathing, then, unfortunately, really we would have no other choice but start over again, as it is unfortunately the case in other countries, not far away from us. Therefore, I beg everyone, please think again and do the right thing for our family, each other and for Albania. It is in our hand, it is in your hands, it is in the hands of each us to do the right thing and all together do the right thing so that we can move forward, recover quickly, heal the wounds and do what we are tasked to do.
