Albanian Government Council of Ministers

As a member country, Albania is represented by a high-level delegation in the Summit of heads of states and governments of the North Atlantic Alliance, in Warsaw, Poland. The Albanian delegation is led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, with the participation of Foreign Minister Bushati and Minister of Defence Kodheli.

At a political level, this Summit is considered to be particularly important for the Alliance, since it is held at a critical time of serious challenges for the Euro-Atlantic security, both in the East and in the South.

Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian delegation will be part of the discussions that will focus on the strengthening of the Alliance’s collective defence, the stability planning in the Euro-Atlantic security space, threats and challenges, and NATO’s engagement in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Rama took the floor in a working session of heads of states and governments, and underlined that Albania has had to go through a long and difficult path until it became part of the greatest security Alliance in the world. During the communist regime in Albania, both NATO and the Warsaw Pact were considered evil, and today Albania is a proud member of the Alliance, and this is a major achievement for our country.

The Prime Minister noted that Albania remains determined to meeting all its budgetary commitments as a NATO member. In addition, it stands firmly by the side of the Alliance in fulfilling its mission. The summit takes place at a moment when we face serious security challenges. Today, violent extremism is a serious threat to collective security, which requires interaction and coordination of efforts at the local and global level. We support the Alliance’s defence strategy, and will continue to be part of every NATO effort to more stability and security in the Euro-Atlantic space.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the support of NATO’s enlargement policy. In this regard, the accession of Montenegro, the Prime Minister said, is the right thing.
