For the second consecutive year, the Prime Minister joined the voluntary campaign of the Albanian Red Cross for blood donation. In the premises of the Prime Minister’s Office, the mobile unit of the Albanian Red Cross launched today the blood donation campaign. Among the first who donated blood was Prime Minister Edi Rama, followed by the staff of the departments of the Prime Minister’s Office. This contribution will support children with thalassaemia.
A regular blood donor for 15 years to support these children, the Prime Minister called on citizens to join this campaign as an act of solidarity that gives life to life.
“Respect for the Albanian Red Cross for this ongoing effort in supporting children with thalaessemia. This is the 15th year I give blood. It is an act of donation that I believe every one of us must do with pleasure, because we help children whose need for blood is vital. Their lives are often threatened by the lack of blood. On the other hand, as the doctor says, blood donation helps also regenerating the human body. Since June 1st is close, and the during summer the need for blood is more crucial, I call on everybody to donate blood, not only because we help children to continue living, but also because this means regeneration for our bodies.”
The representative of the Albanian Red Cross said this is a vital contribution given not only by the Prime Minister and the staff of the Prime Minister’s Office, but by all those who donate blood voluntarily.
“This is the second year that we start in the Prime Minister’s Office the campaign for voluntary blood donation on the occasion of June 1st, Children’s Day, and June 14th, World Day for Blood Donation. We thank the Prime Minister and the staff who responded to our call. We thank particularly the Prime Minister who has been a regular donor with the Albanian Red Cross for 15 years to help children affected by thalassaemia.”
The Prime Minister was joined by the staff of the Prime Minister’s Office. “This is the first time for me, and I am happy for this initiative. I hope that everyone will give their contribution and donate blood to those who need it” – one of the employees said. “This is the second time I donate blood and I would be happy to do this every year” – another one said.
