Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Kukes will have its own regional hospital built this year, a modern healthcare facility which combines the rehabilitation of the existing hospital building with the construction of a new structure at the heart of the hospitality corpus of this region in Albania’s northeast.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, as well as the Mayor of Kukes Safet Gjici, visited the new regional hospital facilities, where construction work has not been suspended despite the difficult situation caused by the Covid – 19 pandemic.

“The initial construction phase includes building of the emergency ward, rehabilitation of the former emergency ward to house the town’s new maternity hospital. The new hospital will also feature three operating rooms, supplied with all required equipment,” Manastirliu said.

The first phase of this revitalizing project for the health care system in the country’s northeastern region is heading towards completion. The emergency ward has already taken its final shape. “The emergency ward will also feature two underground tunnels linking to the existing hospital building, which will also be linked to the maternity and other hospital wards once second phase of rehabilitation completes,” Manastirliu added.

The hospital’s hall ventilation and air conditioning system is also heading towards completion and other required systems will be built and installed to ensure safety and quality delivery of health care services for the residents of Kukes town and the surrounding areas.
