Work is already underway in a newly-launched reconstruction site in the town of Laç, one of the worst-hit areas by the devastating earthquake that rattled Albania on Nov 26 last year, to rebuild a modern residential neighbourhood with a total of 524 apartment houses, a shopping centre, service units and urban infrastructure in line with best European standards. Around of 90% of the excavation work has completed at the 40.000 square meter site picked to host the new apartment complex that will also include a new school building.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the State Minister for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj and the Mayor of Kurbin Majlinda Cara, today inspected the construction site, where the Turkish government-funded project on new apartment buildings complex is being built. Intense work goes on at the site, whereas the Turkish project implementation engineer Servet noted that “the project is designed to withstand a 9-magnitude earthquake.”

The entire area will benefit from the ongoing ground reinforcement process through the construction of a total of 2000 reinforced concrete piles currently being built. 

“It is important that ground level for the complex and the school building is being reinforced. The school will be built on state budget money but we will benefit the ground preparation for free thanks to this project,” PM Rama said.

“According to the construction company, the residential neighbourhood Zone 1 will include five new apartment buildings and this zone is set to complete by March, whereas the second section of the neighbourhood is slated to complete by August,” Kurbin Mayor said.

The work to clear the sites that will host reconstruction projects is underway not only in Kurbin, but also in every other city and town, where the quake-affected families will start over again after the deadly earthquake that hit the country last year. “We have allocated a specific fund for Durres, Kurbin and Lezha to remove solid materials, rubble and clear the ground for the builders to start construction of the apartment buildings immediately,” Reconstruction Minister Ahmetaj said.

The whole complex will be made available to the families that will restart their lives after moving into much better homes. The new complex includes also 400 parking places.
