Reconstruction of the single-family homes severely damaged because of the powerful earthquake on September 21 last year in Tirana completed today as the last quake-affected family in the village of Stermas was handed over the keys to the new dwelling.

Construction of the new house for Dervishi family completed the process in Tirana Municipality.

“Construction of the houses damaged by earthquake last September in Tirana has completed,” Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, while accompanying Prime Minister Edi Rama during a visit to the Dervishi family in Stermas.

Some 1500 dwellings are currently being reconstructed in Tirana and more than 1000 quake-affected families will celebrate the New Year’s Eve in their new houses, while entire construction process of all individual houses is expected to complete by spring.

“Some 18 houses are currently being built in this village only and construction of most of them will complete soon to allow many families to move into their new homes ahead of New Year’s Eve. Nobody has been left alone. A total of 1500 houses are under construction process in Tirana,” Veliaj said.
