After 5 years of interruption, the Archaeological Museum of was opened to the public today upon being completely reconstructed on the basis of a new project.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and wife Linda Rama, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro, representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana and other guests.

At the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Monuments and the Municipality of Durres, the reconstruction of the museum began last year. It was followed by works for the restoration of archaeological objects and their exposure.

The Archaeological Museum of Durres has a fund of 3204 objects, of which 2400 are exhibited today. The second phase will continue next year with the musealization of other facilities.

Minister Kumbaro announced also that a version of archaeological exhibition for blind visitors in the Archaeological Museum of Durres is being prepared. This is a new opportunity in Albania.

Thanks to the work done the number of visitors to cultural heritage sites around the country has doubled in 2014.
