Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Poverty in Vullnet Shabaj’s home in the area of Postribe, Shkodra region, has not hindered his children to do well and even excel in school. Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the family of nine and listened to their troubles, pledging that the family will soon have a new house built from scratch. “These are the greatest gifts you present your mom and dad with and the biggest investment for yourself. We will definitely do something! We will address this problem, because you and your siblings, who are excellent students, never complain: ‘I haven’t this. We have no place to study and do our homework. We have no bed to sleep, enough to eat, we don’t have this and that and therefore we are doing nothing, just like your spoiled peers from wealthy families, who waste time at clubs and coffee shops spending their parents’ money and spend time on “Facebook” and ask for a government job only, because they refuse to take jobs just like Vullnet does,” Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his remarks. The oldest daughter of Shabaj family, is the best performing and highest-scoring student in her class although she walks for an hour to get to school every day. “I am a 10th grader. I walk every day to reach the school. I have to embark on a one-hour walk and sometimes tough journey to school every day. It is really tough when it rains,” she said.

The Premier promised that the family will move to a completely new home in a very near future, while he also pledged his support for a job placement for the family head. “We will build a proper home and we will build it soon. In the meantime, you will temporarily move to another house. The old house will be demolished, whereas a new one will be built from scratch. We would have wished for the new house to complete ahead of the year-end holidays, but time is short. We will provide full-time employment opportunity for Vullnet and we will build a new house,” PM Rama said.
