Press Statement of the Minister of Education and Sport Lindita Nikolla following the meeting of the Council of Ministers:
Another promise was kept by the Albanian government in the field of education. We promised two years ago in the government program of the “Alliance for European Albania” that we would help with free textbooks also Albanian families with more than two children. Specifically, a family with three children would benefit from free textbooks for the third child in the order of education, like every Albanian family with four children would benefit from free books for their third, fourth child, and so on.
This promise was kept today thanks to the Council of Ministers Decision to allocate 2.2 million Euros to support with free textbooks many more categories of Albanian families.
Children of the Gypsy community, like the Roma children, will benefit from this fund and have the opportunity to receive free books for the entire duration of their basic education.
All those children who are considered victims of trafficking or potential victims of trafficking will also receive free textbooks, likewise free textbooks will be given to children belonging to families where there is a person with disabilities or where the head of the household receives a disability pension.
Also, we have paid attention and shown solidarity to children of police officers killed in the line of duty serving the community, so that in addition to the scholarship, they will receive free textbooks for the entire period of their basic education.
This is important news on the eve of the new academic year, and the Albanian government is showing once again that it is on the side of the Albanian families in order to promote a quality education for the younger generation.
Thank you!
