Deputy PM, Niko Peleshi has announced that, through the Albanian Development Fund and Regional Development Fund, the government will increase support to local units that are restructured with the administrative and territorial reform.

Deputy PM Peleshi paid a visit to Maliq and inspected work on the city’s sidewalks, a project funded by the Fund for Regional Development. He said that the ADF and RDF will become important tools to provide a broader support for community development projects.

“It is an initiative of the local government, but the Albanian government will also take on its role and responsibilities. We will provide support with capacities and expertise, as well as through the Albanian Development Fund and the Regional Development Fund, which are now being reformatted; we will support new municipalities to design in a shorter time their strategic plans of development, “- Peleshi said.

In 2014, the government doubled the fund for the Regional Development Fund and supported a total of 73 projects on urban urbanization and requalification, whose primary aim is to promote development in suburban areas and in the areas with tourist potential.

Deputy PM Peleshi stressed the importance of RDF projects that support municipalities, and focused on the positive impact that the administrative and territorial reform will have on increasing the financial capacity of the new municipalities that will be created.

“This investment, today supported by the Albanian government, is equivalent to the 2-year budget of Maliq Municipality. It has been impossible for small municipalities in particular, but also for larger municipalities, to finance infrastructure development projects or other services. The City Hall will have bigger budgets from the savings of the reform. The municipality of Maliq will have approximately one million Euros more, just from the savings of many funds that until yesterday were being crumbled. “- Deputy PM Peleshi said. In addition, he noted that by strengthening RDF and ADF, the Government will support projects of the new municipalities.
