The National Cleaning Plan will go on with the help of the army to clean all the coastal cities and towns across the country in a bid to clean all the coastal areas and beach destinations before June 1 as Albania is in for a bumper tourism season with a much higher number of tourists expected to visit the country this summer.
Prime Minister Edi Rama today inspected the Lalzi Bay area, Durres municipality, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, and the Minister of Defence, Niko Peleshi, to see first-hand the ongoing cleaning campaign that is nearing its completion.
PM Rama said that the upcoming tourist season will be the cleanest season because of the extraordinary work that is done daily in this aspect. “I am confident it will definitely be the cleanest season because of the extraordinary work that is done daily, but also because of the new financial instruments that come to the aid of coastal municipalities that live in a season when the population multiplies and it is of course an extra and incredible burden they have to deal with, but which they can’t of course handle properly given the normal cleaning tariffs. However, it is essential that everyone joins this effort. If the municipalities are clean, it is up to people not to pollute.
“I guess that the clean environment the visitors will find here will certainly have its own impact, but we should monitor and work day and night until the tourism season is over, as the upcoming season is likely to see the largest influx of tourists and the highest consumption rate. This, on the other hand, means that in addition to a positive impact on the economy, in addition to the increased revenue for the national economy and households and businesses operating in this sector, this season will produce more waste too. It is our shared obligation to do our utmost effort in this respect. With the deployment of the troops in this final stage of the plan to give the finishing touches to the cleaning campaign and to the efforts to remove all the debris and solid waste, practically concluding a phase, but we will go on with another phase that won’t stop after the tourist season, for everyone to be clear, because this is the mandate of clean environment among many other issues,” PM Rama said.
