Large cruise ships will be anchored in Vlore for the first time within a few months. Thanks to a 15 million Euro investment by the Albanian government, the project for the complete rehabilitation of the port is in its implementation phase, including the deepening of the current basin and the construction of two additional piers to significantly increase the manufacturing capacity.

During the inspection of the first phase of works, Prime Minister Rama said that the marina added the port will significantly increase the attractive power of Vlore as a tourist centre.

“The port of Vlora is conceived as part of the Lungomare, stretching from the harbour to the Forest of Sodë. Part of this project is the construction of a yacht port, while the new Trans-Balkan Road, which has been completed, will be added a second segment that starts from the existing road to the port”- the Prime Minister said.

The thorough rehabilitation of the port, expected to end by the end of this year, includes the construction of a main area for freight, and a modern passenger terminal. Thanks to this investment, Vlora will have for the first time a modern port for both freight and passengers, to become a catalyst of the economic and tourist development of the whole region.

Prime Minister Rama was accompanied on tis visit to the Port of Vlore by the Minister of Transports Edmond Haxhinasto.

In addition to the port, the government has implemented a number of major projects in Vlora in the4 last two years, such as the Southern Energy Ring, a concluded investment of 49 million Euros, the works for completion of the Trans-Balkan road, while works continue on the Lungomare project, as part of the integrated strategy of the economic and social development of the city.
