Prime Minister Edi Rama started the day today with a visit to the southern town of Permet, where the inoculation of older adults is well underway as part of a countrywide mass vaccination campaign. The vaccination against COVID-19 virus is underway at the health centres close to the residential areas, while a series of transformation projects have been launched to reshape the town’s look.
The main boulevard in Permet is taking a fresh look as the work to transform it continues around the clock. In addition to the main thoroughfare that is being extended to the town’s end, work is underway on two other sites as integrated parts of the Urban Renaissance programme, requalification of the Perroi i Bardhe neighbourhood and rehabilitation of the historical quarter according to the model of Gjirokaster’s and Vlora’s historical areas. Lawmaker Mirela Kumbaro said that investment projects under the Urban Renaissance programme in the town of Permet have significantly encouraged private investment growth as local residents are increasingly transforming their private family homes and apartments into guesthouses and hotel rooms with accommodation offers.
Indeed, the first restoration projects are underway to transform the town’s historical quarter. One of the old buildings is being renovated to be transformed into a hotel as part of the town’s tourist offer. “We will continue to support them and just like this family is investing its savings to transform this building set to turn into a hotel, or guesthouse and this new business will certainly provide them higher earnings. All emigrants should turn their eyes to the private family homes they inherit from their grandfathers and invest their savings to build hospitality and accommodation structures, launch agritourism businesses, as they would earn a lot more than living and working abroad,” the Premier said.
Another ongoing investment project is construction of the water supply system, with the network in urban area already complete and providing 24-hour potable water supply, whereas the system is being extended to rural areas based on the national water programme to provide 24-hour water supply to all residents across the country within 2022. “These projects are being extended to rural areas. Three projects are being implemented and a fourth one is in the process,” Permet Mayor Alma Hoxha said.
“We are talking about the situation with the water supply with 24-hour supply becoming now a reality in all urban areas across the country,” PM Rama said.
Work is also underway to revitalize the cinema building in a project designed to turn the old facility into a culture and art centre. Another project already underway is construction of the town’s water supply system.
