Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Golem, the most populated areas during the tourist season will not be affected anymore from the interruption of electricity as works for the reconstruction of the 110/20kV substation of Golem have been concluded. This substation will provide uninterrupted power to the whole area from Plepa to Shkembi i Kavajes in Golem. Not only blackouts, but also voltage fluctuations have often caused damage to the equipment of nine thousand subscribers. The new three-voltage-level transformer will solve also this problem, in addition to improving the quality of power supply parameters with new technical standards. Power is supplied by means of 20kV new outgoing feeders, while the connection at the ring is made through feeders from Kavaje and Shkozet in order to ease their load.

Meanwhile, the second phase has started as the investment is being extended across the coastal area, from Shkembi i Kavajes to Qerret. This investment, which totals 900 million ALL, will develop an electrical infrastructure that is suitable for the entire coastal area. It will not only provide a quality service since this tourist season, but it envisages a long-term development of Golem as tourist area.

“The first 2 feeders will be ready in July, and the other 4 within this year, including the area from Rreth Plepat to the beach of Qerret. These are automatic, and they can be commanded online and also from the Centre in Tirana. The whole investment amounts to 900 million [new] ALL. More than 9,000 subscribers will benefit from this investment that includes 60 cabins and 36 km cable. In addition, we have invested 2.6 million euros in Kavaja and in the surrounding villages. Residents of the tourist area and residents of Golem up to the beach of Qerret will not face anymore issues in terms of energy”, OSHEE Director Ardian Çela explained.

Investments in the beach area have been made not only in the energy sector, but also in that of water supply and sewerage, and also in order to transform urban areas. In Prime Minister’s opinion, this complex project will transform the whole tourist information of the area.

“This is a complex project that will recover not only the power supply network of the whole area, but it will recover also the water supply and sewerage network of the whole beach area. We have some new projects that are about to start in order to rehabilitate the streets of beach residential areas from Durres to Golem, and give the area the energy of Urban Renaissance, in addition to having a thorough transformation in terms of environment quality. The past 20-something years have been a catastrophe in terms of tourism infrastructure. The waste water ended up in the sea, and there was no electricity here until 2015”, the Prime Minister said.

According to the administrator of the municipality of Golem, the impact of this investment will be huge, and along with the plant for wastewater it will solve two of the major issues of the area. “The voltage has been low in the whole area. The investment has a huge impact, as it solves once and for all one of the 3 major issues of this area, that of power transmission. The wastewater plant is also about to be completed.”

The Prime Minister noted that investments that were not done in 40 years will be made also in this area, but the existing projects needed to be thoroughly reviewed due to their poor quality.

“This is a renaissance in the true sense of the word, in terms of energy infrastructure and water supply and sewerage infrastructure. We didn’t have either energy or water, and wastewater would end up in the sea. People are required to be patient, as these cannot be done within a day. These projects needed to be reviewed from scratch. These are investments that should have been done in the span of 40 years.”
