Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Rama was today in the Highland of Klemend to inspect the progress of projects to return this area in one of the major tourist attractions of Albania.

The sites the Prime Minister visited are the Passes of Hot, where one of the 9 panoramic balconies has been built, the 29-kilometer road Tamarë-Vermosh divided in two lots, one of which will finish next year, and the center of the Municipality of Tamarë. The completion of works in these sites will make the area easily accessible, reducing the travel time by 1 hour and a half, from 3 hours that it is currently.

In a meeting with residents of Tamarë, the Prime Minister talked about the Government’s project to return this territory into a touristic destination throughout the year and to combine the natural landscape with the alpine characteristics of the area.

“We agreed with the mayor to continue this project and give a chance to those who have these business units to restore their original look, through a project and funding in order to settle roofs as they used to be and dress all facades with stones”- the Prime Minister said.

The MP of the zone, Paulin Sterkal, after talking with the Prime Minister, addressed to residents and told them that “the Prime Minister left us the task of restoring the original look of the center, with the characteristic houses of Klemend, so that it can become much more attractive for visitors across Albania.

The Prime Minister as well was made a special request; he was given a “trust”, as one elderly of Tamarë said.

“Welcome Mr. Prime Minister. This is the first time in the history of Klemend that a Prime Minister has paid a visit here. History will tell that Edi Rama was here; a Prime Minister. The others didn’t come; neither those of the Labor Party nor those of Democracy. As an elderly, I am giving you this trust: keep your word, restore the law.”

The Prime Minister replied to this trust with the promise that he “will be back once the works are over”. He added jokingly: “I’ll be back often, since the others never came”.

An important project for the renaissance of this territory is the integrated project of the Alps. In the context of cross-border cooperation with Montenegro, with the EC IPA funds the road section will be built through the border crossing of Grabomë with Montenegro. This traffic flow will have an impact on improving and diversifying the economy in these areas.

“It is a major and complex project the one we have started in the Alps area. The road will connect the entire area of the Albanian community of Plava and Guci. Both Montenegro and Kosovo are included in the Alps integrated project. We will strongly rely on local people, because there is a great natural tourist potential and there are a lot of great resources in this area, who are people and their hospitality”- Rama said.

Today, works were inspected also by a representative of the Municipality of Plava in Montenegro, who wanted to use the opportunity to publicly salute and thank the Prime Minister, as he said “for this initiative, for the concrete steps that have been taken, for hosting us in Tirana, in your office, and for keeping you promises that have become reality.”

For Prime Minister Rama, integrated infrastructure development will strengthen economic cooperation ties.

“Only through these integrated projects and only through this interaction, we can achieve the greater unity that many people seek in a completely wrong way through nationalisms, while we do it through work and don’t need at all to deal with borders. Let borders be, for they are invisible. Meanwhile, the borders that have prevented until now our union have been exactly poverty, lack of infrastructure connections, lack of economic interaction.”

Prime Minister’s last stop was in the municipality of Vermosh, where he met with residents. Here the Prime Minister discussed family tourism development through the support of the Government.
