During his visit to Maliq, Prime Minister Rama inspected works for the cleaning of irrigation and drainage canals, which are being carried out in the village Drithas after more than 25 years. “This canal will increase the under-water area to some 300 hectares in the administrative units of Libonik. Thanks to the government project on the cascade of Lunavec River, all of these lands will go under water, and this is one of the most important investments for Maliq. So far we have cleared approximately 70 km of second and third canals which were not cleaned for 25 years. Some 70,000 cubic meters of dirt were removed from the canals, and they already provide water to the entire field”, Mayor of Maliq, Gazim Topçiu noted.

The cleaning of these canals where no intervention was made for more than two decades, provides farmers a vital support for the progress of their work. Prime Minister Rama noted the importance of the renewing and strengthening of the fleet of excavators to support agriculture. “We will also complete the fleet with new excavators, in order to create the basis of municipal enterprises of irrigation and drainage. The last excavator was bought by the government in Albania in 2005, while some vehicles of the fleet we found dated back to the 70s.”

The thousand residents of Maliq are feeling the effects of the Urban Revival program. The roads that were once ruined have all been reconstructed today. Interventions have included the rehabilitation of underground infrastructure, arrangement and asphalting of roads, the construction of sidewalks, greenery and the lighting system. The road of Maliq Village has also been transformed. Following a 50 million ALL investment, interventions have been made also in the road infrastructure, in the asphalting and the lighting system. “The infrastructure of the countryside has been thoroughly changed. Water is supplied around the clock. The sewerage has been completed. The investment amounts to approximately 50 million ALL”, the Mayor said.
