Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The program to rebuild educational facilities in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Albania on Nov 26 will continue in Kruja, one of the worst-hit municipalities due to natural disaster of last year.

Prime Minister Edi Rama today inspected one of the 12 sites for reconstruction of education infrastructure, where the nine-year school and the kindergarten “Hajdar Hoxha” will be constructed from scratch in the village of Larushk, Fushe-Kruje.

“The old school building has been in a dilapidated condition even before, but the earthquake had damaged it to such extent that it was impossible to repair,” the Mayor of Kruja Artur Bushi said.

The government’s goal is about making sure that as many pupils and students as possible accommodate in new school buildings within this year. To this end, government has allocated state budget funds to rebuild the largest schools in the worst-hit areas.

“The new schools due to be built though the state budget money are the schools with the largest number of students. This is the solution the Ministry proposed when determining the educational facilities due to be rebuild through the state budget funds and the ones to be constructed by the international donors, because we can complete the procedures much faster rather than the donors, who apply their own procedures,” the Director of the Albanian Development Dritan Agolli said, adding that some 38 schools will be rebuilt under this recovery and rebuilding program. “As many as 27,000 students will accommodate in brand new and modern school facilities by end of this year.”

The nine-year school “Hajdar Hoxha” is designed to include classrooms, a teacher’s lounge, laboratories, as well as sports grounds. The school construction project includes also rehabilitation of the outdoor premises and greening spaces.
