A series of investments in infrastructure are increasingly transforming the tourist lakeside city of Pogradec into a more attractive destination for local and international visitors. Rehabilitation of the interchange entrance to the city is one of the projects completing the chain of investments along the lake shore stretching to the city, where the huge construction work of the waterfront promenade at the lakeside resort of Pogradec, called Lungogjol, is set to open soon, after the funding of the project was secured and completed by the Albanian Development Fund.
Prime Minister Edi Rama today inspected the ongoing intense work to apply a layer of concrete for slope stabilization and protection against constant mud, debris and rock falling that has blocked traffic along this segment. “This is the missing jigsaw puzzle piece to connect the ring-road project with the lake line project. The project starts from the tunnel and it is designed to ensure slope stabilization and protection. Dangerous mud, debris and rock fall has taken place along this slope and the ongoing project is designed to stabilize and protect the slope,” the Director of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli said.
The work is currently focused on construction of rockfall barriers and reinforced soil barriers to stabilize the slope, where construction of embankment piles has completed and concrete wall is being built along the 40-meter escarpment,
The Minister of State for Entrepreneurship Protection Eduart Shalsi said that with the construction of the road between Lin and Pogradec complete, the Pogradec beach area, one the most renowned beaches in the resort city, was cleaned. “With the extension of the ring road, fresh investments in the power network, the newly-built fantastic road of Pogradec that is connected with Tushemisht, and with this entire package of investments we are actually heading towards making the dream of Pogradec residents over construction of the lakeside promenade, after the Vlora Waterfront Promenade, come true,” Shalsi said.
In addition, Shalsi said that investment has started in residential blocks inside the city such as in infrastructure, streets, lighting system, green parks replicating the model of Tirana and every city. “Over the past three or four years, Pogradec has seen an influx of investments that have made the city very attractive and together with the city of Korca they represent a very attractive destination for the local and international visitors.”
On his part, PM Rama said with the package of investments underway, the city of Pogradec is undergoing the transformation it has deserved over the years. “I am convinced that once the work to construct the lakeside promenade and the lake’s most panoramic part, the project will lead to a transformation that will complete whole this process that could have been much faster if the mayor of Pogradec was to be the current one.”
