Reconstruction of the dilapidated educational facilities damaged from the November 26 earthquake hasn’t stopped for a single moment.

Ismet Nanushi school in the village of Sukth, Durres municipality, which is expected to welcome back 705 pupils and 80 kindergarten children, was damaged by the earthquake and is one of the 63 education facilities that are being rebuilt in Albania under the EU4Schools programme being implemented by UNDP Albania.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Reconstruction Minister Arben Ahmetaj, and Durres Mayor Emirjana Sako, toured the construction site where everything is being built from scratch.

“This is the third project being launched under the reconstruction programme in this administrative unit,” Durres Mayor Sako said, adding that two more educational facilities, already operational in this administrative unit, have been built through the state budget funds. “Construction of two state budget-funded schools has already completed and they are now operational. Meanwhile this school and another educational facility are being built under the EU programme through the UNDP donations. In other words, a total of four new educational facilities are being built in this administrative unit only to provide children with contemporary education opportunities,” Sako said.

On his part, Reconstruction Minister Ahmetaj noted that Ismet Nanushi school is one of the largest educational facilities being built under the post-earthquake reconstruction programme and it is designed to provide best and optimum education conditions for schoolchildren.
