The 6.4M earthquake of November 26 caused 51 victims and over 900 injured, severely damaging dozens of cities and villages, including the biggest cities of the country, the capital Tirana and Durrës.
According to our preliminary assessment, over 13000 buildings utterly or partially collapsed and 10 thousand people that are homeless.
Although we don’t have an official estimate of the damage yet, with the team of experts inspecting and updating daily the list of damaged inhabitations, our preliminary data forecast a damage of at least hundreds of millions euro, or even over one billion.
Simultaneously with the immediate measures, such as proving temporary housing, food, medical and education service, the Government is drafting a master plan to rebuild the bridges, roads, inhabitations, businesses, schools and medical centers lost or damaged by this earthquake.
However, with the limited resources of the Albanian Government and in face of the urgent needs of the victims of this tragedy, we necessitate more contributions.
This is why, as we are grappling with the biggest challenge in 40 years, the Albanian Government and the Ministry of Finance remain hopeful and grateful for any other contribute you can offer.
