The road “Pavarësia” in Durres is undergoing a transformative project of high-infrastructure standards for the remediation of the spaces on both sides of the road, as well as for the arrangement of the exit roads to the beach extended in two lots.

This project will lengthen and redefine the public spaces of the neighbourhood. Also, it will reduce traffic congestion, and will transform the road into a green axis in addition to reducing pollution due to fine particles, heat, noise, etc. The project aims among others at creating a space rich of urban values, in order to become more attractive for domestic and foreign vacationers. The project envisages the road section to be asymmetric, and have the four lanes merge into two through two roundabouts. This lot includes two areas.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Durres Vangjush Dako, Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected on ground the works for the implementation of this project, which is very close to being completed.

Mayor Dako said about the project that the road will be now dedicated only to the beach area, thus greatly facilitating access to the area. “It is not a highway anymore. It has turned into an urban road. Traffic will be limited. No truck will cross it, included those travelling south. They’ll use the highway. The only destination of this road will be the beach area. Meanwhile, in parallel with this road, another road has been built, financed by the government and the RDF, a canal and has been closed, and thus this other road will greatly reduce traffic congestion in the residential area. There are two lanes for the movement, as well as parking lots on both sides of the road.”

Prime Minister Rama praised the project and said that it is indispensable that these roads have limited traffic in order to give priority to pedestrians. “These roads should necessarily have a limited traffic in the areas with tourism and intensity, although people don’t understand this and say that the road must be widened. But in fact, this is an area where priority will be given to people, and whoever who decides to come here by car, they should consider that this is a place for people. It is not that cars are first, and then people.”

For Prime Minister Rama, this transformation is important because it reduces traffic congestion, and as a consequence the risk of accidents is also significantly reduced. “It’s a big transformation, as it provides an intermediate space that connects the entire community on both sides of the road, with a communication space. It’s not just a river in the middle with cars which needs to be crossed in order to go to the other side, but there is a lot of space for people.”

A visitor form Tetova, who has been visiting Durres for years, congratulated the Prime Minister on the work done. “I congratulate you on the work you have done! Everything is great. It is increasingly better every year.”

After reconstruction, this multifunctional centre with recreational facilities is opened to people of all ages. 150 federated swimmers attend it during the summer, while in the winter the pool is attended by 20 swimmers of the Durres team “Teuta”.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the pool and met with young swimmers and their coach. They told the Prime Minister that they are now happy they can finally train in optimal conditions.

The Prime Minister said that the construction of the Olympic Pool will be extended to other cities as well.
