The town of Golem and its coastline is a popular tourist destination for both local and international visitors during the summer season in particular. In recent years, thanks to the urban transformation this area has undergone, it has become one of the areas with great tourist potential, as well as a variety of residential facilities that offer optimal conditions for all categories of vacationers.
In a bid to meet the growing international visitor numbers and further improve access to the area’s tourist potential, an extensive urban requalification project is already underway in the tourist area of Golem, where work continues concurrently in several blocks. Currently, work is in full swing for the second phase of the internal road network, after the construction of entire underground infrastructure, solving the problem of sewage in this part of the beach, the same as in Durrës.
Prime Minister Edi Rama accompanied by the Mayor of Durres, Emiriana Sako, saw first-hand progress of the urban requalification project in Golem.
The Director of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli explained that construction of the wastewater collector was the most important investment in the first block as it ultimately tackles this long-time problem in the area. “Work on rehabilitation of the tourist block in Golem is about to complete. Rehabilitation of the block along entire Shkembi i Kavajes area completed last year. It is worth noting that construction of the wastewater collector was the most important investment in this block. The six-meter deep and the 2.7-km long wastewater collector network tackle this long-time problem in the area once and for all. The area’s infrastructure has been totally transformed,” Agolli said, adding that “these investments are designed not simply to improve infrastructure and the quality of life, but also increase the property value.”
On her part, Durres Mayor Emiriana Sako noted that the area’s infrastructure is continuously being improved.
“The area lacked proper infrastructure for a long time. The 4.5-km access road that runs in parallel with the highway, is being totally reconstructed, adding elements of rainwater and sewerage network rehabilitation, installation of road lighting and green space,” Sako said.
During the inspection, Prime Minister Rama reiterated the need to keep the environment clean and preserve the areas around attractions. “Under the National Plan, commercial entities, be them businesses, shops, hotels, restaurants, should not use the bins and should leave the garbage in the bag at the door, at a certain time to be picked up by the structure established jointly with the government, in order to start completely changing the cleaning regime but also the approach by the people and businesses ,” the Premier said.
