The urban transformation of various regions across the country has encompassed both major and secondary roads, facilitating easier access to residential areas. This road runs through several residential neighborhoods, bordered by agricultural plots at some points and residential or commercial buildings at others.

The construction of this road, along with essential urban infrastructure, aims to enhance the quality of life for the local community and improve connectivity with other areas of the city. This road will also serve as a vital link between the TEG area and Elbasan Road on one side, while connecting to a network of secondary roads, residential complexes, schools, and businesses on the other.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site today to inspect the ongoing work, alongside Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Anuela Ristani.

“Prime Minister, this is the concept. It’s about connecting communities that are sometimes very close to major infrastructure, like the Tirana-Elbasan highway, but often their route is longer than those who are farther away. So, the entire idea here is to connect this developing area to the main infrastructure, which will help alleviate a significant portion of the traffic congestion at this junction, starting from the TEG roundabout and extending beyond,” explained Deputy Mayor Anuela Ristani.

This new road will significantly ease traffic on the State Reserve Road, which has become severely congested due to the substantial increase in residential complexes, businesses, and educational institutions in the area.

“This is known as the Reserve Depot area, and by taking over this section, we are not only building a road with urban standards. Our territory is expanding at a rate four times greater than the population growth. In areas with major infrastructure, such as the nearby highway, this growth becomes even more pronounced. Therefore, it’s crucial to have all the necessary urban infrastructure, with sidewalks and lanes for cars on both sides. Additionally, the new road will help relieve some of the traffic caused by the high volume of vehicles. We cannot avoid expanding the city, even though we try to grow vertically. As long as we have investments attracting residents, there will always be private developments, with people seeking more space. So, we must manage this growth in a sustainable urban manner, while also encouraging alternative modes of transportation,” Deputy Mayor Anuela Ristani elaborated.

On his part, Prime Minister Edi Rama commended the work done, highlighting that there will be further projects aimed at expanding public spaces for the benefit of the community.

“All of these connections are important because they link to the main roads. Without these connections, highways are less effective for people living nearby who are still far from them due to lack of access. These roads are strategic and crucial, and the work done here is excellent.

We also have a project to expand the entire Durrës beach by 100 meters. We will begin immediately, and then,  on the summer season, we may pause or divide the work into segments and continue from that side. This is a remarkable expansion. First, it will widen the beach by 100 meters. Second, it will create a new pedestrian area and additional living space, along with a new strip of services. This will transform the coastline that has developed over the years,” said Prime Minister Rama.
